In an excellent season, what has been the highlight for you?
There’s a lot to mention, such as getting the most wins in a season, breaking the points record, the style we have played, there’s a lot that are excellent but the best would probably be Exeter away, and getting that point.
Likewise, what was the worst part of the season for you?
The FA Trophy semi final at Ebbsfleet, they deserved it. We didn’t perform in the first half, it was disappointing because that half alone cost us a trip to Wembley.
How important is the atmosphere during the game?
Massively! Home and away you guys set your stool out. Away to Kidderminster the supporters played a really important part. I’d like to say a personal thanks to everyone for that, when the atmosphere gets going so do the team - we work together and it gives the players a massive boost.
You have had a great career, how does this season compare to your previous clubs as a player and manager?
I am fortunate to have experienced highs and lows as a player and as a coach. I’m extremely proud of what we have achieved this season, and it's definitely right up there.
The 1982 FA Cup final must have been a great experience, how did you find the occasion?
It was weird we beat West Brom at Highbury which was a great feeling. We were such a young group of players in the final and it was a great occasion to play in. When the final was over and all the fans had left, I went back out and saw the empty stadium and I felt a great sense of achievement.
You obviously work well with Martin, what’s the key to your relationship?
We have a great partnership. We seem to bounce of each other and have the same ideas. We work very hard with each other and im delighted for Martin. Obviously he wanted my job, and he could easily have been manager. He’s a top bloke.
You will be making a return to Luton next season with Aldershot, how do you feel about that?
I had 5 years at Luton, 5 good years at a good club and going to a club like Luton is a fantastic achievement for the club, not just me.
Do you have any footballer heroes?
When I was at school George Best was my hero but as my career progressed I was fortunate to play against many of my football idols. The best coach I have ever worked with is Terry Venables .
In the press conference at the start of your Aldershot career you said your goal was to get Aldershot back into the football league, what’s next?
Errrrm (with a slight grin).... Let me enjoy the moment. But looking further down the line, I'll be hoping to push Aldershot forward as far as possible.
