A dustman with a head shaped like Kryten from Red Dwarf, Elvis playing a snare drum, Walker Out, Wigley Out, Jimmy in, Jimmy gone, Jimmy back, Jimmy Dack, a guy wearing a Pink Panther costume for an entire season, Rod Stewart (sadly no longer with us, RIP Rod), a guy who snogged a bloke for 40 quid and an anthem originating from a conversation about a Rolf Harris stylophone and gigs in the Unicorn.
It’s fair to say the East Bank is a place like no other.
As the setting for my parents’ meeting as a young couple, the East Bank has always been a very special place for me and, along with many a Shots supporter it has given me some great memories through the years. Some good, some not so good, but ultimately all of them very unique! The East Bank has become like a ‘second home’ to many people, myself included, and for me symbolises everything that is Aldershot – the noise, the colour, the good times, the bad times… and of course the wide range of ‘interesting’ characters!
All change from my early days as a Junior Shot down the High Street End watching Dave Puckett and Adie Randall when I didn’t want to stand with ‘all the noisy people’ up the other end!
With the hard work being put in by everyone (in particular Flagboy) hopefully we can have more ‘noisy people’ in the East Bank and recreate some of the great atmospheres of past years on a regular basis. For me, there’s no feeling like hearing the East Bank in full voice – many a ‘Come on you Reds’ has sent a shiver down the spine – and with all the added colour and passion that is being generated in recent games it’s definitely the envy of many a club in our division and above.
